The finished Baby Blanket made from crochet squares

Hello again!

I just wanted to show you the baby blanket I finished this Tuesday and which I handed over to a friend from my Dutch class. She absolutely loved it!!!

Here are some pictures for you to enjoy!

The finished blanket is made of 7 x 7 crochet squares which measure approx 12cm across. The finished blanket size is approx. 84cm x 84cm. The squares are attached with the pale pink Apilou yarn.

Some close-up photos to show the details. I crocheted a simple shell border all around.

I was quite pleased with how even my crochet looked! It was a lot of work to block each of the 49 squares individually but it was definitely worth the effort.

For the finishing touch I made a long crochet chain with 2 mini squares to wrap around the blanket so it would look nice!

I had to work hard every day to get it finished within 2 weeks, which meant I didn't get much time to do any other crochet. Now that it is done, I can finally get back to them...

Do you like making blankets? What are your experiences? What is your favourite blanket style/pattern? Do you prefer making modules (such as squares) or working on one piece?

I would love to hear your opinions, please leave me a little comment below. I look forward to reading them!

PS: More catch up posts coming up shortly!!!

  1. Wauw, What a cute baby blanket. I hope the owner is enjoying it! I already made a blanket in 1 piece and still working on the big granny blanket from the CAL2015 from Tertia and Jolanda. On my to do list is still a granny blanket. But I'm too busy with everything else! haha. Have a nice weekend.

    1. Thank you, Emily! Sounds like you are also enjoying making blankets. I think I also still want to do a traditional granny square blanket, it would be so much fun... :) xx

  2. I love blankets/throws. I like to make them in one piece using arran wool, particularly striped ones for my Grandchildren who love them.

    1. Hi Jennifer! Yes, it's perfect for a little baby girl! Yesterday was a wonderful day, I really enjoyed myself at the Sewing workshop. I will show my re-make soon. Today it was rainy, so we went to the Bookfair in Antwerp and I looked at all the craft books there, so an afternoon well spent! Hope you had a nice one, too! :) xx

  7. Süß! The colours of your baby blanket are so sweet! Absolutely darling!
Even if they are not the deep bright colours you are used to, they are just adorable all the same. Very restful pastels should help baby sleep.
    Beautiful work, Ingrid. xx

  8. I make a lot of baby blankets, all in granny squares of varying sizes. I've made a few full size blankets but that is some project! I prefer the little ones :-) Yours is beautiful, so delicate.

    1. Hi Amalia! Yes, I think the smaller squares look more dainty, but for this blanket it was a question of making sure I would finish on time! I didn't really fancy sewing up even more ends! It's always my least favourite aspect of making things! ;) xx
