Colourful South Bay Shawlette finished and Domein Hofstade

Hi everybody!

A warm welcome to you all, especially to my latest followers!

I promised you more news! So here is another post, make yourselves comfortable and enjoy reading this!

On Monday I finished my colourful South Bay Shawlette. I think it measures approx 210cm across and is over 1m long! The last few rows were getting longer and longer, with about 700 stitches in a row! I used over 8 balls x 100 g Fenna yarn!

Here are some photos of my finished Shawl, I am very pleased with it!!!

10.11.14 Colourful South Bay Shawlette is finished!!!

I hope you liked these pictures, I wanted to show off the magnificent colours from all angles! I loved looking at it against the sunlight, it brings out the pattern really well!

A Sunday Walk

On Sunday we drove to a public recreation domain called Hofstade. Just before we arrived, it started to rain! Luckily it stopped just as quickly and the sun came out a little bit later.

Here is a map for Hofstade, you can clearly see the 2 large lakes, one for sports and one for fishing.

Flotilla of Boats
The Sporting Lake from the Beach end

After finishing both the Shells Cowl and the large Shawl one after the other, I was feeling a bit at a loss as which project to tackle next!

Well, I still have WIPs: my Harlequin Blanket - on which I will mostly work at home, as it is getting larger and larger! I also have the black Alpaca Shawl to knit.

Meanwhile I cast on stitches and started on the rib of a knitted Hat for a change! You can see it below, together with a little Flower Brooch I made yesterday with some of the Fenna yarn from the Shawl.

What are you busy with? What is your favourite project?

Do you find yourself doing more crochet or knitting now the days are shorter and darker?

I'd love to find out what you think, please would you leave me a little comment for me to read?
Thanks ever so much, you are such a brilliant bunch of readers!!! <3

  4. I LOVE THE SHAWL!
Yes I am shouting, I have admired this shawl in so many blogs,
but when you decided to use my fav colors as well *stunned*
I wish I could get that kind of yarn in Norway.

I am glad you had the chance to enjoy yet another Sunday walk :o)
    Have a nice day.

    1. Hey Monica! YES, I CAN HEAR YOU!!! ;)))
Hahah, glad you like it, too! I tried to make the most of the yarn by using more than 8 balls in total, it was hard to know when to finish! I certainly love the colours as well, it's nice how well they contrast with each other. I might see if I can find some more of that yarn, but I have my doubts, it's probably sold out already!!! And yes, it should be more widely available.
I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon that Katia yarn only yesterday, at least it can satisfy my colour craving! ;)
Well, we try to go on some weekend walks when we get the chance and I find it inspiring and also a nice bit of exercise! We all tend to sit a lot, especially with using computers. With me it's crocheting/knitting as well!!! But I love going for walks!
Have a good day! (Here in Belgium it is a public holiday!) xx

    2. Serching the web for colorfull yarn, but stupid customs in Norway allows us to buy only for 200 NOK from abroad. If we buy more we have to pay taxes.
Enjoy your colors! Grey grey and grey weather today :( makes me grumpy.
      Have a nice week end

  5. Another beautiful walk, so many stunning place that you visit. The shawl is a real delight. I have so many other things on the go at the moment that I am not getting as much crochet done as I would like.

    1. Hi again! I can understand that, since you have been so busy with the wedding preparations and craft fair and Christmas coming up!!! However, you also got a lot to show for your efforts!!! The things you make are all lovely!!!
I wish that my blanket would progress faster, but then I know it is probably the biggest project I have attempted so far, and that of course, it will take time. My crochet mostly benefits from a lot of travel time, I always take at least one thing along with me! With the walks I try to open myself up to new things, to look at things afresh and share them with others, so they can hopefully enjoy these little glimpses! (I do hope nobody finds them boring, I try to share what there is!) xx

  7. I love your shawl - the colours are so beautiful. I can only crochet in the car now when it is daylight. So not on the commute to or from work. So I have to knit instead!

    1. Doh!!! Lack of daylight is a bummer!!! But great if you can use it for knitting! I have been known to knit on the dimly lit bus sometimes. In the car I have had the inside light on on occasion...just one more row, can't stop now.... etc ;) xx

  9. Such a beautiful, colorful shawl! Don't you love a good self-striping and coloring shawl so you don't have to sew in those nasty ends? I'm making hat for hubby right now and will finish it later today. Had several things started that just didn't work out last week and were ripped out. Ah well, I tried!

    1. Hi Pammy Sue! I never really thought about those pesky ends, but this time I was supergood and sewed them up as soon as I got going with the next ball of wool (well before the return row)! It definitely helps!!! But basically I just really love colourful yarn! ;) Sorry your projects didn't work out as planned, it's all part of learning what works and what doesn't! Good luck with the hat! xx

  10. Hi Ingrid, wow your shawl is very pretty and I like the size of it, lovely to drape over an outfit both indoors and out.
Stunning shot of the fishing lake-beautiful weather for a jolly jaunt.
Happy crocheting the rest of your week.

    1. Thanks, Helen! I picture myself wearing a long black dress with the shawl, it would offset the colours all the more! It will come in very useful indeed! xx

  11. Ingrid your shawl is amazing. LOVE its colorful stitches.
I've been eager to get to my needles as the sun sets earlier!
I find it difficult to find as much beauty to photograph outside this time of year . Its grey and windy and most of the leaves are gone gone gone...
but then I have kittens to try to capture in photographs

    1. Hi Kathy! Thank you!!! I've been amazed how many trees here still got leaves, and a lot of them still look greenish, but it sounds like Autumn is a step ahead where you are. Ah, kittens!!! Please capture them in as many photos as you can manage, I'm curious to see your foster kittens!!! (And good luck with them!) ;) xx

    1. Absolutely, Amy!!! It was a (happy) accidental discovery that led to taking these shots...after I had taken lots of photos outside!
I hung up the shawl in front of a window and the sun shone through and I loved that effect. I now wish I had a colourful crochet curtain...which is, of course, highly unrealistic, and won't happen anytime soon, heheh! I love to try new things with photography all the time. In order to photograph the whole shawl on the floor from above, I had to stand half way up on the stairs - due to the size of it!! xx

  13. That shawl is spectacular. I love the beautiful, vivid colors and the pictures of the sun behind the shawl are amazing. Love our walk and you new projects. I am trying to finish a pair of slippers.

  16. Absolutely gorgeous shawlette Ingrid! The colours are just so uplifting. The lakes look wonderful-a perfect place for an Autumn walk. At the moment I am dabbling in several different little projects for Christmas, some crochet and am doing some little decorations with felt too!
    Have a great weekend,
    Best wishes

  18. Hello,
I am LOVING the shawlette, and would like to make one myself, but how on Earth did you make the button?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi there! The shawl does not have a button. What you can see in some of the pictures is a small crochet flower brooch that I made. But you could use any brooch or shawl pin really. Hope this helps! :) xx
