A FUNKY CROCHET Top and some more rusticlacesquares

Hello my friends and welcome back to another week!

Did you have a good weekend? The weather here wasn't so good but that gave me the opportunity to concentrate on watching some TV whilst indulging in a spot of crochet.

Today I want to show you a new crochet top I made over the last four days.

Here is my Funky Crochet Top

My Funky Crochet Top

I made it from Lana Grosse Allegro, a colour changing yarn (58 Viscose, 42 Cotton). I believe this yarn might be discontinued. I only managed to get 8 x50g , so I wasn't sure it would stretch to making a top, but I was giving it a go. I normally like my tops and jumpers loose fitting, but this one would be a close fitting one.

When I saw all the colours, I felt instantly transported back to the Seventies!!!

There are shades of purple, ochre/gold, brown, coral red and petrol blue. All colours I love!!! Especially when they are combined like this!

I started by crocheting a granny square and just kept going! I made it to 25 rounds.

Then I made a second square the same.

I test stitched them together with some scrap yarn to see if it would fit ok. It did. As I still had a bit of yarn left, I decided to add 3 extra side rows (on both sides of the front panel) and 2 extra rows at either side of the front neckline. That was as much as I could add. You can see it here on the left.

Luckily there was enough yarn to sew the halves together.

Cleo and Jasper wishing you all a colourful week!!!

Hope you all have a great week!!! I leave you with more colour...

    1. Thank you, Lorraine!! You know how it is, the moment I saw this yarn, I fell in love with it!! :)) It was so easy to make and fits well, the yarn is pretty robust. Also I was inspired by some of the fashion in shops I have been seeing lately, there is a definite 70s vibe with boho styling and spice colours (think browns, cinnamon, caramel, purple etc) and this top has got all of that!

Also, last not least, it reflects my style, of doing crochet in a funky and unusual way. ;) xx

  2. Dear Ingrid, you are really corageous to start a top without knowing if you have enough yarn. But it fits you well! The yarn looks beautiful. I love your rustic lace squares a lot. What are you going to make from them? Have a nice evening, Viola

    1. Hello Viola, haha, I know it seems a bit silly, but I did base it on my experience. I knew the weight and the running length of the yarn, so I reckoned it might just be enough! The only thing that is difficult to know in advance is the stitch pattern and the relating gauge, i.e. if my way of crocheting uses more yarn length than given on the yarn band attached. Also I figured that I could always add other yarn to make it the right size.

I am hoping to make a lot more rusticlacesquares and turn them also into a garment, maybe a (sleeveless) cardigan. Yesterday I reached 45 but I will need more...

Have a nice week!!! :). xx

  5. Always great to see your blog posts. I look forward to them because I love your colours and creativity. The closer fit looks lovely and shapely.
One has to be careful with squares that they don't look too much like a shapeless sack...it depends on the length and ease as well as how one accessorises them. What do you think, Ingrid?
The contrasting colours in your rustic squares are very effective. Pretty!

    1. Hello Jodie, and I always look forward to reading your comments... :)

I think part of the reason works is that the yarn is sturdy and robust enough to give it structure, whilst my way of crocheting is stretchy enough to allow movement.

These two squares are actually 'yarn hybrids' - I used two variegated colour shades in one square.... thus making it a bit more eye catching.

On the other hand, only using one shade means less ends to sew up later!!! xx

  7. Hi!

  20. Hi, Ingrid!! I love the top you made and it looks good on you. I hate the way I look in sleeveless tops. I like 3/4 sleeves to cover my arms, but sometimes it's just too hot. Those Rustica Squares are so beautiful! The colors you chose look great. I have that pattern saved to try some day. There are just not enough hours in the day for all the patterns I want to make. Are you making a blanket with those? Have a great week! ♥

    1. Hi Pammy Sue! You are right, sleeves can be more flattering. Unfortunately I only had so much yarn, I 'squeezed' as much out of it as I could!
I am still busy making more rusticlacesquares . I am not making a blanket, but I will reveal it hopefully soon. ;)
      Take care! xx
