Hello my friends!
I hope you all had a nice weekend and some time to enjoy a little bit of sunshine? Here we were lucky to have had sunny afternoons both on Saturday and Sunday, but we had a storm last night! We just have to make the most of the weather whilst we can! I will show you some wonderful impressions from my walks, but first to my latest completed project.
The Silver Shells Cowl is finished!!!
This Cowl, that I mentioned in my previous post, was completed this morning. I only had to crochet the final 2 rows and then crochet it all together. When worn, the lower part fans out wide and covers the shoulders. Here it is!

Observations: This cowl was easy enough to make, I love the effect of the soft Merino yarn. I adapted the pattern by going up one hook size for the last 4 rows. I wasn't too impressed of having to join at the sides, I would have preferred to crochet it in the round instead! I am pleased with the shape though, because you could wear this over a Top/Jumper and it would keep you just as warm as when wearing it underneath a coat! No draughts!!!
My colourful South Bay Shawlette and the Harlequin Blanket are ongoing, I managed to work a bit on both this weekend. I will show you some photos another time!
A Walk in the Nature Park Walenhoek near Niel
Walenhoek is a Nature Park in the next village (Niel) where excavated clay pits were filled with water and turned into fishing ponds. There are 13 different ponds, 9 of which are for fishing. There are a number of marked walks through the woods and along these ponds. We went for a walk there before in the early summer. I let the pictures speak for themselves! (Believe me, these are just a number of handselected photos, I took lots and lots this Saturday!)

A Walk in the Park in Heerlen, Netherlands
Yesterday we drove to Heerlen in the Netherlands. We went to see (and hear!) a Multimedia Sound Art Exhibition called (H)EAR XL2 -
weblink here. It was really interesting!
Afterwards we took a stroll through the town centre and went for a nice walk in the nearby Aambos Park, which also houses some animals.
Here are some highlights!

Thanks, once again for your patience and support! And welcome to my latest followers!!!
I would love to read your comments, so please feel free to write something in the space below!
Thank you!!! Have a good week!
Gorgeous walks - I love the way cockerels crow! The cowl looks very nice but it would definitely be better worked in the round. Could you not adapt the pattern?
ReplyDeleteI'm working on it, as we speak! Just got home on the bus from my Dutch lessons and have started another version, this time working in the round. So we will see how that works out! The problem was that I didn't know the pattern, so I followed it (for the first time) and by the time I realized how it would end up, I had already done quite a lot, so didn't want to frog it all! You live and you learn!!! xx
DeleteHi Ingrid, your silver shells cowl is really very pretty, your choice of wool brings out the detail of the crochet stitches beautifully-well done you. I can imagine it looks rather splendid over a jumper-very chic.
ReplyDeleteYou have had blue skies, lovely to get out and breathe. Love that handsome cockerel.
Have a lovely week and hope you keep blue skies.
Helen
Hi Helen! No luck so far, had quite a lot of rain today and this evening, but I'm grateful for such a nice weekend! :)
DeleteThe cowl does indeed look a bit chic, I was pleasantly surprised!!! Have a nice week! xx
Two amazing walks so glad you had such good weather to enjoy them, the shell cowl is beautiful. Have a great week.
ReplyDelete...and you! Thanks, Lorraine! xx

ReplyDeleteThank you, Amy! Hope you have a good week!!! xx
DeleteBeautiful cowl!!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos!
Happy week.:*
Hi Ljubinka! Glad you liked them!! xx
DeleteI just love how the cowl fans out at the neck
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy! Yes, I like the shape very much, it's the first time I tried something like that! The interesting thing is that the number of stitches does not increase, only the size of the stitches!
DeleteCurrently working on a second one, adapting the pattern to crocheting in the round! xx
I like even stitch counts...no fuss
DeleteYour cowl is amazingly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice walk. Prachtige schapen;
Thanks, Brigitte! Hope you are having a nice week! xx
DeleteDit was weer een goed gevuld, ijverig weekend! Mooi handwerk, mooie wandelingen! En de foto van de schapen is de winnaar!
ReplyDeleteGroetjes xx
Dankje, Christine! De schapen waren heel nieuwsgierig! xx
DeleteThe cowl looks wonderful, great pattern for that yarn. I want to take a walk with you and visit those sheep.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Hi Meredith! Earlier I was reading all about LB's adventures at the farm... so I can understand you want to visit the sheep!!! In fact (at that park) there was a whole enclosed area with goats, chickens, peacocks, deer and more!! I tried to take photos through the metal posts, but a lot of them did not come out very well! xx
DeleteYour silver shell cowl is lovely, and will be so cosy! I enjoyed the beautiful nature pictures from your walks......what a gorgeous place! And you found a red spotted toadstool too! Wishing you a happy November and lots more lovely walks.

Thanks, Helen! :) This week has turned more rainy and grey unfortunately. Now I'm about to bake a nice plum crumble!! xxx
DeleteYour photos of the nature parks reminded me of my time in the Netherlands where I used to cycle through the local reserves to travel into the district town centre. I remember wild rabbits and deer, and ducks and a lake. Thank you for sharing your photos. I have never seen a cowl fan out like that, but then I haven't made a lot of cowls. Now that you have made it once, surely you can work out how to do it in the round next time. I am amazed at your productivity. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jodie! Glad you liked the photos! I am already working on another cowl, which I crochet in the round this time. It is almost finished, but I need to buy extra yarn! xx
DeleteWhat a lovely cowl you've made!!!
ReplyDeleteThe yarn is fantastic is it is great for the cowl!
Wishing you a lovely weekend :)
Thanks, Maya! Yes, it looks pretty and I love wearing it! xx
DeleteThe cowl looks great I want to make something using the shell stitch. Your walks look lovely what a cute bambi deer x
ReplyDeleteHi! Yes, the shell stitch is very pretty and quite easy to do! I've made a long rectangular shawl with it before! :) xx
DeleteHi Ingrid... Greetings from Australia. I stumbled on your blog via another and am glad I did. Your cowl looks lovely and I agree with you that it would be better done in the round - and easy enough to do too.
ReplyDeleteHi Dorothy! Thanks for your comments and finding me here! :)
DeleteYes, you are right about crocheting in the round. Yesterday I finished my second shell cowl which I made in the round! I will show it here soon! xx
